Unlock the Sparkle: Our Secret Jewelry Cleaning Recipe

Unlock the Sparkle: Our Secret Jewelry Cleaning Recipe

First of all, Shout out to LWL Bling Wash  its the base of this recipe. I just took it and ran with it. I reviewed it and tried it on everything. ITs the best.

At NB Jewelry Boutique, we believe every piece of jewelry tells a story, and a radiant sparkle helps those stories shine. That’s why we’re thrilled to share our findings of this secret potion—a simple, at-home cleaning recipe. This method restores the brilliance of your treasures, from dazzling diamonds to bold costume pieces, ensuring they dazzle as brightly as your unique style.

The Secret Potion: A Simple Jewelry Cleaning Recipe

This tried-and-true recipe is affordable, uses household items, and delivers professional-level shine:

  • Windex or any glass cleaner: Fill a Pyrex 2 cup round is what i use 3/4 way full.

  • A few drops of dish soap (like Dawn) I use a pump from my mason jar.

  • A soft-bristle, used toothbrush.

  • A microwave-safe glass container

  • Microwave

How to Clean Your Jewelry Safely

  1. Prepare the Solution: In a microwave-safe glass container (we love a glass container with a lid for storage), pour in 2 cups of Windex and add a couple of drops of dish soap. Store it under your kitchen sink for easy access.

  2. Heat It Up: Without the jewelry, microwave the solution (lid off) for 1 minute. WARNING: The solution will be very hot and possibly bubbly—handle with care to avoid burns.

  3. Soak Your Jewelry: Carefully remove the container from the microwave and add your rings, earrings, or other pieces. I put the lid on and just sit it on the counter. I let it range for all different times depending on the amount of cleaning it needed, OFFICIALLY - For a quick clean, soak for 5–10 minutes. For a deep clean (perfect after a day at the pool or beach when sunscreen builds up), let them soak for up to an hour. The heat loosens dirt, leaving your jewelry sparkling clean.

  4. Scrub Gently: Use a soft-bristle, used toothbrush to lightly scrub, focusing on prongs where dirt hides. My take .... I have just used the old kitchen scrub brush. only because I am lazy and can't find anything, Then I though the brush in the dishwasher and save it for next time.

  5. Rinse and Dry: Rinse thoroughly under lukewarm water over a bowl (to avoid any drain disasters!). Dry with a paper towel for instant, radiant shine.

In just 15 minutes, your jewelry will sparkle like it’s brand new!

Our Experience with the Recipe

At NB Jewelry Boutique, we’ve tested this cleaner on everything—fine gold and gemstones, vintage heirlooms, and even costume jewelry with faux gemstones. It’s versatile and effective, but caution is key. For vintage or costume pieces with delicate materials or adhesives, use it lukewarm and limit soaking to 1–2 minutes to protect their integrity. What i did was clean my real jewelry first then it had cooled down to lukewarm. The result? No cloudy film, just pure, dazzling shine that elevates every piece in your collection. Even after cleaning everything…

A Word of Caution

Every piece of jewelry is unique, so disclaimer: Always test this cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area first, especially for vintage, costume, or delicate pieces. Handle the hot solution carefully to avoid burns and never microwave the jewelry itself. If you’re unsure about a specific item, consult a professional jeweler to ensure its safety. This is my experiment and jewelry I was comfortable trying it with. I even did my real Pearls. But it was MY test. I am not recommending it to anyone. Just giving what my experiment results were.
